Holiday Spending
This is my second favorite time of the year (the start of the NFL season being the first). The holidays always brings great things such as family, friends, food, and $12.00 trips to Starbucks. I find that December is the one month where spending can get out of hand. There is always extra parties, gift exchanges, and $12.00 trips to Starbucks. You would think I have a Starbucks problem. Here is your solution for the holidays: cash.
I am usually not a proponent of using cash on a daily basis. I find that if cash is used incorrectly, then you are not holding yourself accountable to your spending. But during the holidays, cash is the answer. Make an effort to predetermine the amount of money you are going to spend on holiday gifts, and then withdraw that amount of cash. Put the cash in an envelope and take with you while you shop. I guarantee if you use cash, then you want go over your holiday budget. Speaking of Christmas presents, give the gift of knowledge. What Your Dad Never Taught You About Budgeting will be out in two weeks. Visit www.petetheplanner.com to order your copy. The ordering system will be up soon.
